Description
Pounamu Double Pikorua (Twist) with Koru Necklace
Genuine New Zealand Pounamu (Greenstone), sourced and hand carved in Aotearoa (New Zealand). Pounamu is of great cultural significance for Maori and is believed to enhance mana (prestige) of its possessor. This intricate, hand-carved pendant of New Zealand Pounamu is an elegant addition to any look, suspended from an adjustable cord.
This striking double Pikorua pendant features an elegant Koru design, expertly hand-carved from exquisite Kahurangi Pounamu. Suspended from a 9ct gold bail, this beautiful piece is a timeless taonga.
Pikorua: The double and triple twists resemble two intertwined pikopiko ferns, symbolizing the interconnected paths of life, love, or friendship, and eternity. The double twist specifically represents the bond between cultures or communities rather than individuals and was traditionally exchanged as a gesture of friendship between tribes.
Koru: Derived from the Māori word meaning “bright” or “loop,” the Koru symbolizes the unfurling fronds of the silver fern. Its circular motion toward the inner core signifies a return to origins, while the unfolding frond represents new life, fresh beginnings, hope, personal growth, purity, nurturing, renewal, and peace.
